Sonnenstromfabrik increases sales by 30 percent in 2020
SONNENSTROMFABRIK (CS Wismar GmbH), one of Europe’s cutting-edge leaders in manufacturing high-quality photovoltaic modules, celebrated continued sustainable and profitable growth last year despite the negative economic impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The company managed to increase the sales of its high-quality PV modules by 30 percent. As in previous years, the company closed out the 2020 financial year with a positive financial result, setting it apart from many of its competitors.
SONNENSTROMFABRIK owes its success in part to a large-scale innovation initiative with investments in the millions of euros. An important part of this initiative was the full automation of the final assembly stage for photovoltaic modules, which the company achieved on schedule in the fourth quarter of last year. The new systems have been up and running at full capacity ever since, driving continued growth in retail. A new facility for manufacturing the PV module frames in-house had already been commissioned at the start of last year.
The company also invested in new machinery at the beginning of this year that will allow SONNENSTROMFABRIK to process solar cells up to 220 mm large with half-cut and tri-cut cell designs. The machinery is set to be ready for operation by the third quarter of 2021.
In response to current logistical challenges, the company managed to secure the required cell capacities and materials for PV module production at an early stage. These foresighted supplier agreements have added to strengthening SONNENSTROMFABRIK’s superb competitive standing.
Positive growth prognosis for 2021
By joining the CENTROTEC Sustainable SE group (Brilon, Germany) in the second half of 2020, SONNENSTROMFABRIK gained a financially strong partner in the energy-efficient building technology sector with a turnover of over EUR 700 million. This move also represents a secure investment in the future growth of the company. Joining the group’s international network also paves the way for SONNENSTROMFABRIK to enjoy increased growth potential and market opportunities.
Dr Bernhard Weilharter, Managing Director of SONNENSTROMFABRIK, says, “Despite the Covid-19 pandemic, we were able to close out the last year with an impressive result Thanks to the unwavering confidence that our customers place in SONNENSTROMFABRIK’s PV modules. By investing into the future, we were able to set the course early on for stable growth in 2021 and beyond, despite the ongoing economic crisis. This means that SONNENSTROMFABRIK customers are in safe hands, now and in the future.”
